Kaizer Chiefs fans could see a new face in Amakhosi colours this weekend as they return to action in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday evening.
The Glamour Boys had this past weekend off due to a change in Absa Premiership fixtures due to the CAF inter-club competitions, meaning that they missed the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Head coach, Ernst Middendorp, opted to give his players some time off in order to reinvigorate themselves after a busy January, but now they return to work as they prepare to face Royal Eagles in their first Nedbank game of 2020.
One player who may well be looking forward to the tie is new Kenyan signing, Anthony Akumu, who was snapped up by Amakhosi in January after his exit from ZESCO United, with indications now that he has received his work permit and is eligible to make his debut against Eagles.
The 27-year-old had been battling a little injury niggle following his arrival at Naturena last month, but has now been in full training with the rest of the team as he eyes his first appearance in South Africa.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether Khama Billiat – another player who has battled injury – will be ready in time to face Eagles on Saturday, though Middendorp may be looking to give some fringe players a runout against GladAfrica Championship opposition.
